Hi
everyone,
Rejoice
and be exceeding glad! I’m using my new computer, which the beloved
spouse has caused to behave itself. So that’s the happy part. Less
happy is that I’ve decided to wait a while on opening the Studio, and I’m sure
everyone understands why. Besides all the safety reasons, Frank and his
parents are coming to stay for a week or so while their furniture travels to
Durham where Mike will be teaching during his sabbatical. It’s a long and
circumstantial story with all the uncertainties of the COVID era. They will
be in the Studio for a few days. And then Stanley Steemer. . .
Anyway
I hope everyone is aware that a subscription to the Disney Channel will give
you free access to the theatrical performance of Hamilton filmed in
2016, before all the famous people moved on. That was our Fourth of July
celebration yesterday, since we knew we’d be comforting scared dogs during the
neighborhood fireworks. Two near-90 pound dogs trying to get into your
lap takes some creative movement.
So
here’s Eric Whitacre’s Star-Spangled Banner for the day after the
Fourth: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbzS15q--yE. I can’t
think that the straight tone he’s asking for is healthy, but it certainly makes
the dissonances intense.
And
for the best sung ever Flower Duet from Lakme, we have Natalie Dessay
and Delphine Haidan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhFC3AhLtag.
Remember that this is rondo form, don’t turn it off until you’ve heard the
pretty part three times.
Best wishes,
Pat
